We are partnering with AZ DCS and Arizona licensing agencies to provide Icebreaker meetings for foster/ kinship providers and the families of the children in their care.
What is an Icebreaker meeting?
An Icebreaker is a meeting between parents and out-of-home caregivers that is set up and facilitated by Fostering Families AZ. This can be done virtually or in person and lasts 30-60 minutes.
What is the purpose of an Icebreaker?
Creates an opportunity to build a bridge between the child’s family and the foster family and establishes the beginning of Shared Parenting
Allows the Parent, Caregiver, and the Facilitator to discuss and work out what is expected of one another in the early stages of the relationship
Gives the child’s caregivers an opportunity to learn about the child’s background and discuss the child’s care; their routine, likes and dislikes, what gives them comfort, etc.
What can result from this meeting?
They will receive valuable information which will assist them in providing the consistency and care necessary to reduce trauma to the child, as well as create the beginning of a relationship with the parents
They will feel the support and concern from both families working together
They are able to remain involved and contribute to the care of their child while outside the home. They can also gain a sense of relief in having a connection to the child’s caregivers.
